What are X-Tokens?
X-Tokens are the currency of Planet-X's Treasure Rush mode. Where they come from, what each chest tier is worth, why they reset every round, and how Streaks fit in.
X-Tokens are the currency of Treasure Rush, Planet-X's prize-driven game mode. You find them in chests during a hunt, you spend them in the Campaign shop, and, the part that changes how you should play; they expire at the end of every round.
That expiry is not a punishment. It is the mechanic that makes Treasure Rush fair, and understanding why is most of what you need to know to play it well.
The basics
- Where you get them: chests found during Treasure Rush hunts.
- What they buy: items in the Treasure Rush shop, which restocks every round.
- Round length: roughly an hour, though this is subject to change.
- Hunts per round: as many as you can fit in.
- At the end of a round: your X-Token balance resets to zero.
How a round works
A round is a self-contained window, usually about an hour long. Within it you can run as many hunts as you like, and every X-Token you pull out of a chest adds to a balance that is yours for that round only.
While the round is live, the shop shows a set of items you can buy with that balance. When the round ends, the balance goes back to zero and the next round starts fresh with its own shop.
So X-Tokens are not savings. There is no stockpiling toward an expensive item over a week of play. Whatever you want out of a round, you have to earn it inside that round.
Why the reset exists
Consider what Treasure Rush would look like without it. Tokens would accumulate indefinitely, and the player with the most hours available would win every prize by simple arithmetic. Someone with an hour a day could never catch someone with ten, no matter how well they played, because the gap would only ever widen.
Resetting the balance each round closes that gap. Everyone who plays a given round competes on what they find in that round, not on a balance built up over weeks. A player who can only join one round a day is playing that round on even terms with someone who has been online since morning.
It means your hour is a real hour, not a small deposit into an account you will never catch up on.
Chest types and what they are worth
Not all chests are equal. Planet-X has three tiers, and the difference between them is large enough to shape how you spend your time in a hunt:
- Common chest (yellow) — the baseline.
- Rare chest (red) — roughly 9x a yellow chest.
- Legendary chest (purple) — roughly 9x a red chest.
Those multipliers compound. A purple chest is worth something in the region of 80-90 yellow chests, which means a single legendary find can be worth more than an entire round of careful common-chest farming.
Treat these ratios as a rule of thumb rather than a specification. The studio is still testing the exact per-chest values and adjusting them to make sure prizes stay genuinely winnable, so the numbers will move. The shape of the curve — each tier an order of magnitude above the last — is the part worth planning around.
What this means for how you hunt
Because the tiers are so far apart, a round spent hoovering up yellow chests will rarely beat a round that lands one purple. Chasing a red or purple chest is usually worth real risk, where the same risk taken for a yellow chest is not. So if you see somebody find a yellow chest, you might have to reconsider if you find it worth to engage in a fight or not.
And because the balance resets, there is no reason to play conservatively at the end of a round. Tokens you do not spend are tokens you lose. If you are short of what the shop is asking and the clock is running down, the aggressive line could be the correct one as you have nothing to protect anymore. Killing another player and taking their X-tokens might be the little extra push you need to finish the item you wanted to buy.
Streaks: the other half of the system
Some prizes are not gated on X-Tokens alone. They also require a Streak, which is a count of how many games you have played in a row.
Streak points decay if you go two hours without hunting during a campaign. Keep playing and your Streak climbs; step away for long enough and it starts falling back.
The two systems are doing deliberately different jobs, and it is worth being clear about the trade:
- X-Tokens reward what you find inside a single round, and reset so that no one can bank an insurmountable lead.
- Streaks reward consistency across a campaign, so sustained play still counts for something.
Together they mean a casual player can win a round's prizes on a good hour, while the prizes locked behind a high Streak stay as recognition for players who keep showing up. If you are chasing a Streak-gated reward, the two-hour decay window is the number to plan around — a short hunt every couple of hours protects a Streak far more cheaply than rebuilding one from scratch.
The short version
- X-Tokens come from chests in Treasure Rush and are spent in that round's shop.
- They reset to zero at the end of each round, so spend what you earn.
- Red chests are worth roughly 9x yellow; purple roughly 9x red.
- Exact values are still being tuned and will change.
- Some prizes need a Streak as well as tokens, and Streaks decay after two hours without a hunt.
Planet-X is in closed beta and Treasure Rush is being actively balanced. Round length, token values and prize requirements are all subject to change — we will update this page as the numbers settle.
